I teach Spin, Boot Camp, and Belly Dance at Hometown Fitness. I also have a background in Karate (Shorei Goju style), and obtained my Black Belt in December, 2008. Fitness has always been my way of life and I truly enjoy helping people feel good about themselves. I am extremely passionate about everything I do in life and live by the expression "Carpe Diem." As well as being dedicated to an active way of life, I am a dedicated mother and devoted to my family. They are the reasons that keep me going.

Everyone, and I do mean every single person, can do either Yoga or Pilates. It does not matter your fitness level, strength, or whether you have ever attended a class before. You can do it! Moves and poses can be modified to fit your fitness level and the motto is "do what you can to make a difference in you." See you soon!

My passion for health and fitness prompted me to become certified through the National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association (NESTA). With my love for health and physical fitness I want to encourage others to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I have been training clients for over 14 years and I continually go to various seminars and training camps to further enhance the training experience with my clients. I have an exercise philosophy, coupled with all the abundance of research and studies regarding exercise, that it is necessary to constantly evaluate all approaches to every type of exercise. As a trainer, I’m not only creating and implementing effective workouts, but leaving the client with the knowledge he or she needs to understand the reasoning behind them. I love weight training, healthy eating and meditating which I have made an integral part of my life, that I believe makes for a happy and healthy individual.
Lisa Mate
I’m Lisa Mate and I’ve had the honor of motivating fellow health enthusiasts at Hometown Fitness for over a year. I have been involved with several fitness clubs over the past 20 years with Spinning, Kick Boxing, Circuit Training, Weight Lifting and Cardio Training. Using positive reinforcement to promote cardio and strength training, along with proper diet, has proven to be encouraging, especially to those who have struggled with diet and exercise throughout their lives. I believe that keeping exercise exciting, upbeat and personally challenging is the key to keeping an individual motivated. There’s nothing more rewarding for me than to see a student achieve a goal that had previously been a struggle for them.

I have worked in law enforcement in a variety of capacities during the past seven years. My dedication to protecting the community and its citizens has fostered my ambition to function as a public servant. My ability to communicate instructions effectively has aided me along my career path. For example, because of my experience with internal affairs, I was selected by the police commissioner to act as his personal legal advisor and bodyguard. This was a difficult and challenging position that required me to maintain the utmost integrity in both my professional responsibilities and personal life. I have been equally devoted to my other passion: fitness and bodybuilding. You will find me to be a determined professional who establishes clear goals and puts forth my best effort to achieve them. Mission Statement: Dedication is the path to accomplish any goal.

I moved to Plainfield in 1990 at the ripe old age of 9 and have never left. I am now 28 years old and have a rewarding career with the Plainfield Fire Protection District. I am a graduate of Plainfield High School (before it was Plainfield Central) where I played for the Wildcats ice hockey team. Recently, due to my expressed interest in fitness I have helped to develop a fitness program for the fire district as well as obtaining my Certified Fitness Trainer certification through the ISSA. I believe through hard work and proper nutrition, you can achieve any of your fitness goal. Whether it's losing a few extra pounds, increasing your strength, or training for a firefighter physical ability test, it can be done!

I graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa with an exercise science degree in 2007. I had an internship in Minnesota with Next Level Sport during the summer of 2006, training high school athletes of all sports. Athletes are my passion but I also train people who want to lose weight and get back in shape. I am more than happy to help you create and understand an exercise program and nutrition program. Working out should be fun, and the best way to keep it fun and healthy is working out with a friend and consistently changing up your program so it never gets boring!

I am a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) through the American Council on Exercise. I recently received this certification to fulfill a passion I have for personal fitness and wellness. I believe it is essential to set a good example for all of my clients, and therefore I work on improving my own fitness on a daily basis.
In addition to being a CPT, I have been an Occupational Therapy professional for 25 years, holding a state certification and license for therapy practice. Because of my work in the therapy profession, I am keenly aware of the body’s muscular and cardiovascular systems. I am a strong proponent of maintaining the integrity of the human body and its vital organs via diet and exercise. During training, it is critical to maintain a mind, body and spirit connection.
